Recife is one of the Brazilian capitals most affected by climate change – in fact<\/em>, it is one of the cities most impacted by the advance of the sea worldwide<\/strong>. This is what research by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)<\/strong> shows. <\/p>\n\n

But that’s not all. When it rains, it floods. It floods. Kill.<\/em> When it’s sunny, the heat is intense – and getting hotter. It’s getting hard to live with climate extremes without adapting<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

That’s why, this May, Recife is hosting two major climate discussion events<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n

The Climate of Change Festival<\/strong> is coming! On May 14<\/strong>, the open space of Cais do Sert\u00e3o<\/em>, in Recife, will be filled with art, music and debates<\/strong> – debates about the future<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n

The same week also sees the 19th International Conference on Community Adaptation to Climate Change (CBA19)<\/strong>. So: is there still a climate for change in Recife<\/em>? <\/p>\n\n

We talked about this – and much more – with Raquel Ludermir<\/strong>, who holds a doctorate and a master’s degree in Urban Development, is an architect and urban planner, and is the advocacy coordinator for Habitat for Humanity Brazil<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n
