The Semi-Arid Platform of Latin America is a network of organizations present in 10 countries, dedicated to articulating efforts to secure rights, strengthen resilience and promote sustainable development in the continent’s semi-arid regions. With the support of the International Land Coalition (ILC), it emerged in 2012 from an exchange of experiences between organizations in Argentina’s Chaco and Brazil’s Northeast. <\/p>\n\n

Since its foundation, the Platform has been a catalyst for international exchange and cooperation between the peoples of Latin America’s semi-arid regions. In this context, rural youth have become the protagonists of a set of actions that began in 2019 with the \u201cYouth and Agroecology\u201d approach. <\/p>\n\n

With many partners, various actions were carried out that developed the sense of collective and articulation of more than 300 young people from different countries: Youth and Agroecology Exchange<\/a> <\/strong>(2019), the Knowledge Internship Program<\/a> (2020-2022), and the DAKI-Youth Training Program<\/a> <\/strong> <\/strong>(2023). In this process, two Political Charters (2019 and 2024) were discussed and published, establishing the seed of a Latin American Youth Network for the Semi-Arid as the fruit of these different processes.<\/p>\n\n

In 2025, together with the Sabi\u00e1 Agroecological Development Center<\/a>, in partnership with the Climate Observatory (OC)<\/a> and with the support of Terre Des Hommes Suisse (TDH)<\/a>, we will take another step with the \u201cSemi-Arid Youth\u201d training trail: a training course for rural youth in Latin America, which will combine online training and face-to-face exchanges, in preparation for COP30.<\/p>\n\n

The project seeks to strengthen the networking and advocacy strategies of young people in decision-making spaces, ensuring that their voices echo and their messages reach global discussion processes, with the aim of generating commitments to climate justice and agroecology, in a way that is contextualized to semi-arid realities.<\/p>\n\n

Training trail: SEMIARID YOUTH AHEAD OF COP30!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

THEME: Strengthening Rural Youth in Latin America’s Semi-Arid Regions<\/p>\n\n

OBJECTIVE: to train and strengthen rural young people up to the age of 35 on issues related to coexistence with the semi-arid region and political advocacy, in preparation for COP30 in Bel\u00e9m, Brazil.<\/p>\n\n
