In the second week of July, the Environmental Licensing Bill<\/em> – also known as the Devastation<\/strong> Bill<\/em> – was approved by the Chamber of Deputies.<\/p>\n\n

A bill that makes Brazil’s environmental laws more flexible<\/strong> ignores the climate crisis<\/strong> we are already facing and disregards the thousands of deaths a year caused by illegal deforestation<\/strong>, environmental destruction and the consequences of being inconsequential with our greatest wealth: biodiversity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Bill 2159\/21<\/strong> creates a special environmental licensing<\/em> regime which, in practice, means giving a license to work on nature<\/strong> – and to destroy the environment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Who is interested in this destruction? What are the risks for the future – and for our present? The Devastation Bill has passed.
