This week’s Real Food asks: Can we clean up the beaches? <\/strong>The most recent CPRH<\/strong> survey has shown that more than half of Pernambuco’s beaches are unfit for swimming<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Pollution isn’t just visible to the naked eye: it affects ecosystems<\/strong>, weakens fauna<\/strong> and flora<\/strong>, disrupts the lives of fishermen<\/strong> and shellfish<\/strong> gatherers<\/strong> and, of course, also impacts the city’s tourism<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

September 20th<\/strong> is World Day for the Cleanup of Beaches, Rivers and Lagoons<\/strong> – a day of awareness and, in Recife, a day of action for the beaches!<\/p>\n\n

From September 19 to 29<\/strong>, Greenpeace Brazil<\/strong> is organizing actions to clean up beaches<\/strong> all over Brazil. In Recife, the action takes place on the 21st<\/strong>, with the Mar\u00e9 de Consci\u00eancia project<\/strong>, an initiative of activism and artivism that may, who knows, also point the way to cleaning up our beaches. <\/p>\n\n

So, can we clean up the beaches? That’s what we’re going to talk about now with Lucas Gabriel<\/strong>, activist, biologist and Greenpeace Recife<\/em> volunteer. <\/p>\n\n
