According to health authorities, the impacts of the use and consumption of food contaminated by pesticides on a regular basis are alarming, and we can compare it with the impacts of tobacco use on our health. Exposure to poisons can cause a number of diseases, depending on the product that was used, the time of exposure and the amount of product absorbed by the body.<\/p>\n\n

The International Labor Organization (ILO)<\/a> states that pesticides cause 70,000 acute and chronic poisonings per year and that they progress to death in developing countries. More than seven million cases of non-fatal acute and chronic diseases are also recorded. Brazil has been the country with the highest consumption of these products since 2008.<\/strong> The entire population is susceptible to multiple exposures to pesticides, through consumption of contaminated food and water and through direct contact with rural workers. <\/p>\n\n

The Bolsonaro government, already in its first year, released 474 pesticides.<\/strong> In 2020, the number rose to 493. At the end of last year, the Ministry of Agriculture set a new record, approving the registration of 550 new pesticides. And yesterday (9), the Chamber of Deputies<\/a> approved by 301 favorable votes the \u201cPoison Package\u201d, Bill (PL) 6.299\/2002. The measure relaxes the rules that deal with the adoption of pesticides in the country, facilitating the opening of the market for new pesticides, and focuses on the Ministry of Agriculture the inspection and analysis of these products for agricultural use. <\/p>\n\n

There were only 150 votes against and 301 votes in favor of the poison<\/strong> , now the PL goes back to the Senate, where it will be voted on again. Are we going to let the Senate pass the approval of more poison in our food?<\/p>\n\n

Eleven deputies from Pernambuco helped to approve more poison on our tables and more diseases in our families, they are:<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n
