Agroecology and Traditional Peoples was the theme of the V Exchange of the Urban Agriculture Project: Producing Real Food and Generating Quality of Life, of the parliamentary amendment number 41750013 of federal deputy Túlio Gadelha.
The event took place on Wednesday morning [5], at Sítio de Pai Adão, in Água Fria, North Zone of Recife [PE], and counted with the participation of urban farmers, technical advisors from non-governmental organizations, and terreiro peoples.
The purpose of the exchange was to learn about and exchange knowledge with the experience of Sítio do Pai Adão, enabling the exchange participants to replicate the learnings in their territories.
For Elisangela Silva, better known as Janja, who is an urban farmer from Horta Margaridas, located in Ocupação Aliança, in Recife, participating in the exchanges and learning more about other territories is very important. “Today, we were at the Pai Adão’s Terreiro to learn more about this culture and also take knowledge of the space and the people who do this wonderful work,” said Janja.
The action was carried out by the Centro Sabiá, with the partners Casa da Mulher do Nordeste and Federação de Órgãos para Assistência Social e Educacional – FASE, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply – SICONV No. 909893/2021.
In a country where 33 million people have nothing to eat, the Centro Sabiá has been contributing for 30 years to fight hunger, whether in the countryside or in the cities. In the Metropolitan Region of Recife, for example, Sabiá assists 15 urban vegetable gardens that directly help 280 hungry people.
You too can be part of this fight against hunger. Donate to Sabiá and contribute so that more families have something to eat. Make a donation!
