The Struggle of the Countryside is Everyone’s Struggle! | Cantos do Sabiá
João Lucas França – Radio host and communicator for the Sabiá Center.
April 17th, the Day of Peasant Struggles, is a very important date for the countryside, for those who live in the countryside, who live off production! A date that gains much more weight after so many challenges experienced in recent years; The Temer government, which made it easier for large landowners to enter protected areas, favoring agribusiness; The Bolsonaro government, which destroyed environmental measures, overturned indigenous land demarcations, and released record numbers of pesticides and poisons into the countryside.
The countryside still had to face the Covid-19 pandemic, where farmers from all over Brazil had to wait for delayed emergency aid, while suffering from hunger, disease, and delays, setbacks.
Today, in the new Lula government, there is the challenge of solving the new problems, created in the last decade, and – together with the countryside – trying to solve the problems of hunger, and food insecurity, brought back by the Bolsonaro government. The struggle of the countryside is immense. But it is not only from the field. It belongs to all of us! Fighting for the countryside is fighting for Brazil!
To talk about so much resistance, we invited once again the technical advisor – Juliana Peixoto to Cantos do Sabiá! Juliana is a technical advisor and coordinator of the Centro Sabiá in the territory of Agreste.
Cantos do Sabiá is the Centro Sabiá’s Podcast! Weekly we discuss agroecology, sustainability and politics in the countryside and in the city! The podcast goes live every Monday, with the complete interview edition that originally made up the Center’s radio program. https://spoti.fi/31VtUj5
