On Tuesday afternoon, 19, we welcomed Alanna Araújo, technical consultant for the Cisterns Program of the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger (MDS). Maria Cristina Aureliano, our general coordinator, and Demetrius Falcão, our financial administrative manager, took part in the meeting.

The MDS is carrying out a broad evaluation of accredited entities to identify potential, weaknesses and opportunities with the aim of improving the accreditation process for civil society organizations. And in order to run the Cisterns Program, organizations need to be qualified by the MDS itself.

*The accreditation of private non-profit entities is a necessary condition for participation in public call processes published by the Ministry’s partners within the scope of the Cisterns Program.

On the 1st of this month, the MDS published a new call for tenders for the construction of cisterns. The nine states of the Northeast region will be covered, as well as Minas Gerais, benefiting 1,400 families from 17 municipalities in Brazil’s semi-arid region.

After years on hold, the Cisterns Program has returned and the Sabiá Center, as well as various organizations that make up the Semi-Arid Articulation (ASA), are qualified to implement this public policy, which is so important for families living in Brazil’s semi-arid region.
