On May 28-29, Carlos Magno, our social mobilization coordinator, took part in the Annual Assembly of the Climate Observatory, one of the most important networks debating climate issues in Brazil. The event took place in Brasilia and was attended by around 100 people from the various organizations that make up the Observatory.

This year, the purpose of the meeting was to define joint strategies for COP-30, in addition to debates focused on the Climate Observatory’s agenda. The 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will take place in the city of Belém, Pará, and Centro Sabiá will be present as a UN-accredited observer organization.

The Sabiá Center became a member of the Climate Observatory in May, when it was welcomed by acclamation by the members of the Network. According to Carlos Magno, being part of the Climate Observatory is very important for the Sabiá Center, because Sabiá’s goal is to bring the Caatinga biome into the climate debate.

  • “Next year the COP-30 will take place in Brazil, and we are very engaged in this debate with civil society to bring up issues related to the Caatinga, the Semi-Arid and all the debates on the renewable energy model that has arrived very strongly in our biome,” said Carlos.

The Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, closed the Annual Assembly of the Climate Observatory in the federal capital. At the meeting, she said that another approach is needed, both from the point of view of regulatory frameworks, financial means, human and technological resources – and public policies and budgets so that we can adapt to extreme events.

Nothing found.
