To guarantee standing forests | Cantos do Sabiá

João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

July 17th is Forest Protection Day. It’s a date that helps guide discussions about environmental protection and the preservation of our biomes in a country that, today more than ever, needs to adapt to ensure the future – the future of the biomes, the fauna, the flora… our future.

Brazil is experiencing a new moment in environmental protection. The 3rd Lula administration contributed to containing the advance of fire and the political and environmental destruction inherited by the Bolsonaro administration – a period marked by severe setbacks for the environment, with record fires, deforestation, and the dismantling of environmental inspection and defense agencies.

But the scenario still demands attention. The defense of forests needs to be permanent in a country already impacted by climate change. How can we ensure that the Atlantic Forest remains standing? How can we ensure that the fires in our Caatinga are reduced? We invited Ladivânia Nascimento, Environmental Development Analyst at Recife City Hall and director of the Recife Botanical Garden, to our virtual panel today to discuss this important issue. She is a forest engineer and has a PhD in Botany.

Cantos do Sabiá is the Sabiá Center Podcast! Every week we discuss agroecology, sustainability and politics in the countryside and the city! The podcast goes live every Monday, with the complete interview edition that originally made up the Center’s radio program. https://spoti.fi/31VtUj5
