Devastation Bill: What now? | Real Food

João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

In the second week of July, the Environmental Licensing Bill – also known as the Devastation Bill – was approved by the Chamber of Deputies.

A bill that makes Brazil’s environmental laws more flexible ignores the climate crisis we are already facing and disregards the thousands of deaths a year caused by illegal deforestation, environmental destruction and the consequences of being inconsequential with our greatest wealth: biodiversity.

Bill 2159/21 creates a special environmental licensing regime which, in practice, means giving a license to work on nature – and to destroy the environment.

Who is interested in this destruction? What are the risks for the future – and for our present? The Devastation Bill has passed. What’s next? That’s what we’re talking about on Comida de Verdade. Joining us is Paulo Mansan, coordinator of the Mãos Solidárias campaign and state leader of the Landless Rural Workers’ Movement (MST).

Comida de Verdade is your Saturday program to talk about food and agroecology, valuing our markets and local culture.
