Lilac August and the fight against violence against women | Cantos do Sabiá
João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

We are closing the month of August, a month of struggles and resistance, of young people, of indigenous peoples, of our Pachamama.
But it’s also a month that ends with Lilac August: a time of reflection and awareness-raising to end violence against women. The month is over, but the discussion must never stop.
Lilac August is a month to discuss violence against women, but also to understand what we are talking about when we talk about violence. We know that femicide – the murder of women motivated by domestic violence or simply because they are women – is the most extreme and irreparable form of violence. It is the end of life. It is a crime.
But violence goes far beyond the physical. It can be physical, sexual, psychological, moral or property-related. Recognizing violence is the first step to freeing yourself from it. There are ways out. There is a way out of violence. It’s time to fight violence!
Glauce Barbosa, a social worker at the Cabo Women’s Center, has a degree in Social Work, a post-graduate degree in Psychology and training in Community Therapy.
Also with Melissa Vieira – family farmer, secretary of Women Rural Workers of CONTAG(National Confederation of Rural Workers and Family Farmers).
