Can You Plant in the City? | Real Food Program

João Lucas France. Broadcaster and communicator for the Centro Sabiá.

We are back with more Real Food! And this week we talk about Urban Agriculture – a form of food production that is social, urban, ecological and political at the same time!

According to IBGE data, 85% of the Brazilian population lives in urban centers, with only 15% living in rural areas. Even so, according to the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), 80% of the global food production is destined for urban centers!

The same FAO data also show us that only 15% of food production takes place in urban centers. So, if urban centers produce little, what is the point of urban agriculture? And can it be planted in the city? It is about all this and much more that we talked with Simone Arimatéia! Simone is an Agroecologist, Technical Advisor on Urban Agriculture for the Centro Sabiá. She is PMDPro certified.
