Poison in heaven is poison on earth! | Cantos do Sabiá
João Lucas França – Radio host and communicator for the Sabiá Center.
Brazil has turned poison into a market. And he turned poisoning into food. It’s no coincidence that we are the world leaders in pesticide consumption. No wonder so many people fall ill – every year – because of the poison. And where does so much poison come from? Sometimes it comes from above. Rain of poison.
A common and dangerous practice. In 2017, according to IBGE, 20% of the pesticides used in the country were applied by aerial spraying. Of course, any pesticide is harmful to health. But the problem is that studies show that pesticides sprayed through the air can spread far beyond a plantation; they contaminate soils, waterways, the farmers themselves, houses, cities, people, animals and biodiversity.
Poison in heaven is poison on earth!
In order to talk about and combat this practice of poisoning, today we’re going to discuss aerial spraying of agrochemicals. “Poison in the sky is poison on earth!” an agenda that is also being discussed at the public hearing taking place at the ALEPE – Legislative Assembly of the State of Pernambuco – on the 27th!
And it’s to talk about this very important issue that we’ve invited Giovani Leão to join us today ! Giovani is an agent of the Pastoral Land Commission(CPT) and has been working for the commission in Pernambuco since 2005. His work is in Pernambuco’s Zona da Mata.
Cantos do Sabiá is the Centro Sabiá’s Podcast! Weekly we discuss agroecology, sustainability and politics in the countryside and in the city! The podcast goes live every Monday, with the complete interview edition that originally made up the Center’s radio program. https://spoti.fi/31VtUj5
