Solidarity and women in agroecology | Cantos do Sabiá

João Lucas França – Radio host and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

This week’s Cantos do Sabiá talks about #8M , International Women’s Day! A powerful reminder that women’s struggle goes beyond a day of celebration. It’s about recognizing the role of organization, unity, the exchange of knowledge, ancestry, but also looking ahead and building new paths. A collective construction for equality and justice.

From social movements to activism, the collective voice of women has challenged the norm – each in their own specific struggle! This impact also reaches the countryside, because that’s where a lot of this struggle begins. The strength of agroecology has been a powerful tool of resistance and autonomy. A solidarity, a network, which has constantly challenged agribusiness, dominant agricultural models, and male-dominated agricultural models. Growing food and also fighting!

And it’s to talk about these struggles, feminism, agroecology and the solidarity of women in agroecology that we invited Maria Verônica de Santana, a black woman, settled farmer, agroecologist and popular feminist educator, to our chat today. Verônica currently sits on the board of Centro Sabiá as its president.
