Less plastic, more sustainability | Cantos do Sabiá
João Lucas França – Radio host and communicator for the Sabiá Center.
Since 2023, the Sabiá Center has been campaigning for agroecological fairs and conscious consumption. We’re talking about the “My Fair, My Bag, Our Planet” campaign.
The initiative aims to raise awareness of the need to reduce the use of plastic bags at agroecological fairs and to help reduce plastic waste in the environment. We get used to receiving plastic bags to put our vegetables, fruit and legumes in, and it’s very rare that we ask ourselves: where do these bags end up after we’ve used them?
According to theUnited Nations ( UN ), pollution caused by the disposal of plastic objects is one of today’s greatest challenges. That simple garbage that is poorly disposed of or not reused ends up in sewers, streams, rivers and seas, contaminating the water and being ingested by animals. This same waste also ends up in our rivers, springs and beaches, causing even more problems for cities.
We need to think about conscious consumption at every stage of our diet. From production until the food reaches our tables! How can we ensure more conscious choices for the future – here and around the world?
To bring this discussion “to our tables”, we spoke with Gabriel Hirata , an agroecology technician, environmental manager and technical advisory team at Centro Sabiá in the RMR.
Cantos do Sabiá is the Centro Sabiá’s Podcast! Weekly we discuss agroecology, sustainability and politics in the countryside and in the city! The podcast goes live every Monday, with the complete interview edition that originally made up the Center’s radio program. https://spoti.fi/31VtUj5
