Same Brazil, new poisons | Cantos do Sabiá
João Lucas França – Radio host and communicator for the Sabiá Center.
And today on Cantos, we’re going to talk about Brazil! The fight against poison, against pesticides. Why so much poison, so much flexibilization?
Last week, the Brazilian Congress overturned President Lula’s veto, which allowed both the Ministry of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources and ANVISA – the National Health Surveillance Agency – to participate in the review processes for pesticides entering Brazil.
Now, MAPA – the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock – will be responsible for the analysis. An analysis that tends to lean towards the entry of more poison into Brazil, new agrotoxics, new flexibilizations; tends to lean towards poisoning crops and populations. Is it a surprise? Could you have predicted it?
Either we think about health now, or there will be no tomorrow. Either we stop making the entry of poison more flexible, or we lose out to agribusiness. What can be done? Walter Evangelista – professor of rural extension in agronomy, professor of undergraduate and doctoral studies in agroecology – talks to us.
Cantos do Sabiá is the Centro Sabiá’s Podcast! Weekly we discuss agroecology, sustainability and politics in the countryside and in the city! The podcast goes live every Monday, with the complete interview edition that originally made up the Center’s radio program. https://spoti.fi/31VtUj5
