Uniting and strengthening the youth of Pernambuco’s agreste region at the Territorial Meeting of Youth and Agroecology

On July 22, 23 and 24, 2024, the youth of the Agreste region of Pernambuco held a meeting entitled “Youth and Agroecology” at the sanctuary of the communities in Caruaru-PE.

The Territorial Youth and Agroecology Meeting was a remarkable and enriching experience, notable for its diversity and inclusion. Throughout the three-day event, the welcoming atmosphere was remarkable, as everyone was able to express themselves freely and share their experiences and knowledge. The presence of multiple perspectives and identities brought a unique richness to the meeting, making it a truly inclusive space.

In the first moments, the history and trajectory of young people from the municipalities of Cumaru, Jataúba, Orobó, Vertente, Vertentes do Lério, Santa Maria do Cambucá and Jupi were shown, along with their experiences of the CJMA (Commission of Young Agroecology Multipliers). The activities, such as the carousels, provided moments of learning and reflection, encouraging participants to take home new ideas and motivations for their future actions.

The unity and empowerment of young people was evident during the event, both in the lectures and in the practical activities carried out at Mônica Silva’s home on the Jurema estate in Cumaru, in the northern Agreste region of Pernambuco. These moments of sharing experiences and learning were fundamental to the individual and collective growth of the participants. Meetings like this are extremely valuable and should be promoted more often, as they offer unique opportunities for learning, connecting and empowering young people.

With the aim of winning more rights for young people seeking a better life in the countryside, bringing a decent, sustainable income to their homes and enabling better conditions for their families.
