Losing arable land | Cantos do Sabiá

João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

April is a busy time for environmental defense and conservation! April 15 is the day we commemorate and remember soil conservation – an urgent debate, as the world loses arable land every year.

Soils that are disappearing because of global warming, the greenhouse effect, lack of nutrients, extreme climate change and poisoning. In Brazil, among its more than 500 types of soil, only 29.6% have good agricultural potential. The future of our soils needs to be one of conservation… or else we won’t have a future.

That’s why today we’re looking for agroecological ways to conserve, restore and recover arable land! Raimundo Bertino – agroforestry consultant, geographer and agricultural technician – talks to us about this. He specializes in organic farming and has a master’s degree in rural extension.

Cantos do Sabiá is the Sabiá Center Podcast! Every week we discuss agroecology, sustainability and politics in the countryside and the city! The podcast goes live every Monday, with the complete interview edition that originally made up the Center’s radio program. https://spoti.fi/31VtUj5
