Marias School: who are the Marias? | Real Food
João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

The Marias School is coming to the end of its semester. The Marias School: Women and Urban Farming in the Metropolitan Region of Recife (RMR) is an initiative for healthy, agroecological planting and teaching about it – right in the heart of Recife, right in the middle of the city.
This school is an initiative of the Sabiá Center, together with UFRPE’s Center for Agroecology and Peasantry, and also with the Movement of Homeless Workers (MTST), with support from the National Urban Agriculture Program.
Well, Escola Marias has come, it’s completed a semester, and now it’s closing another cycle! This is the fourth and final class of the Marias School. And what a difference this school has made to urban agriculture! More than that: what difference does it make to the Marias, the pupils, the students of Escola Marias?
This week, Comida de Verdade takes a look at the story of these students and their experience at Recife’s first urban agriculture school.

Comida de Verdade is your Saturday program to talk about food and agroecology, valuing our markets and local culture. Every Saturday at 10 . 30am on Rádio Universitária 99.9 FM and rebroadcast on Rádio Universitária Paulo Freire 820 AM – Podcast format on Spotify from the Sabiá Center! https://spoti.fi/31VtUj5
