On Thursday morning, networks, social movements and civil society organizations took part in the inauguration ceremony of the National Council for Sustainable Rural Development (CONDRAF) in Brasilia, [17].

Nominated by the networks and articulations, they will take up the positions of CONDRAF councillors: Aniérica Almeida [Centro Sabiá] and Clérison Belem [IRPAA]representing the Northeast Agroecology Ater Network, Verônica Santana [MMTR] and Neila Santos [CETRA], representing the National Articulation of Agroecology – ANA, João Alexandre [AP1MC] and Glória Aráujo [PATAC]representing Articulação Semiárido – ASA. The terms of office will be two years.

* CONDRAF is a collegiate body that is part of the basic structure of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Farming, with the purpose of proposing guidelines for the formulation and implementation of structuring public policies, constituting the main body for consultation and articulation between the different levels of government and civil society organizations and social movements, for sustainable rural development, agrarian reform, family farming and food supply.

For Aniérica Almeida, technical-pedagogical coordinator of the Sabiá Center, today is a memorable and happy day for the return of this space for building public policies for family farming, but also a very important space for monitoring these policies aimed at the peoples of the countryside, forests, waters and the semi-arid region. “CONDRAF is back,” said Aniérica.

According to Clérison Belem, IPAA’s institutional coordinator, the Ater Network represents the Northeast, the technical advisory services and the organizations that are part of this collective and seek appropriate public policies for the region. “Now we’re going to build proposals and make agroecology strong in the countryside,” added Clérison.
