The latest edition of the Agreste Territorial Agroecology Meeting took place this Tuesday (31), throughout the morning, at the City Premium Hotel in Caruaru. Present were representatives of rural unions, organizations and social movements working in the territory, as well as state deputy Rosa Amorim (PT), the mayor of Jataúba, Cátia Rodrigues, municipal agriculture secretaries and councillors from the region’s municipalities.
On the occasion, the document with the Guidelines for Strengthening the Agroecological Territory was presented, and the managers committed themselves in speeches and by signing it. The purpose of the Territorial Agroecology Meetings is to influence public policies for family farming and agroecology in the municipalities and state.
This is the third and final stage of a process of discussion and formulation of proposals with organizations and social movements in the three territories where Centro Sabiá operates, which culminates in the delivery of the proposals to the local administrations. The ETA has already passed through the Sertão do Pajeú (11/10) and the Zona da Mata Sul (25/10).
For Maria Cristina Aureliano, general coordinator of the Sabiá Center, just having the law is not enough. We need plans drawn up with the participation of civil society, guaranteed budgets and committed public officials. “And even with the plan, we need a budget, managers and legislators committed to agroecology and, of course, the mobilization and participation of civil society,” Maria emphasized.
The Territorial Agroecology Meetings are organized by Centro Sabiá and partners, with the support of Misereor.
