The event will take place at Sindsprev-PE, in the Guabiraba neighborhood of Recife, for an audience of 70 people from the 9 NE states, and is closed to guests

From July 26 to 28, the 29th edition of the Northeast Conjuncture Seminar entitled: Building the democratic and popular project in the 2024 elections will take place in Recife. The aim of the event is to strengthen the construction of a democratic and popular project for the Northeast and Brazil, taking into account the municipal elections and social participation in public policies.

On the first day (26), marking the opening of the Seminar, there will be a public lecture at 7pm on the theme: Building a Popular Democratic Project for the 2024 elections, in the auditorium of Sindprev-PE, in Guabiraba, Recife. The event is open to the public and will feature speakers: PT/RN deputy Divaneide Basílio and Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) professor Jonas Duarte.

The Seminar also aims to reflect on popular communication strategies for these elections, using new technological communication tools, to build mechanisms for articulating and strengthening territorial actions carried out by popular social movements and organizations, as well as to present and debate the proposal for the Federal Government’s program for social participation with popular education in the territories.

During the three days, topics related to agroecology, politics, feminism, gender, racism, LGBT-phobia, the right to land and territory, communication, democracy, municipal elections, climate change and other human rights issues will be discussed.

The activity will bring together community leaders, human rights defenders, as well as representatives of universities, NGOs, political parties and collective organizations: networks, forums, with the aim of ensuring the participation of the 9 states of the Northeast region.

For popular educator, feminist and executive coordinator of the Quilombo dos Palmares Training School (EQUIP), Joana Santos, the event is of paramount importance in the current context of the 2024 elections. “The municipal elections are crucial in the context of 2024, because the scenario is one of reflection, listening to black women in this campaign dispute with few resources and access to parties, as well as the difficulty of structuring campaigns, are some of the elements for building a democratic and popular process in the spaces of power, electing black, indigenous and lgbt women who are those candidates who represent the population and are out of power,” she said.

The event is organized by the Quilombo dos Palmares Training School (EQUIP) in partnership with RECID, FETAPE, FETAEPE, FASE, Instituto SOS Corpo, Centro de Desenvolvimento Agroecológico (Sabiá), CUT/PE, CEAAL, ABONG, CONTAG, ENFOC, MST, CCFD, Sindicato dos Bancários de Pernambuco, Fórum de Mulheres de Pernambuco,Rede de Educadores dos Movimentos Populares do Nordeste, Rede de Mulheres Negras de Pernambuco, Frente Popular de Mulheres Contra o Feminicídio do Piauí, Centro das Mulheres do Cabo (CMC), SERTA, Caranguejo Uçá, Sindicato dos Bancários de Pernambuco, Fórum Suape Espaço Socioambiental MISEREOR, CESE and CUT-PE.
