The semi-arid forest – Cantos do Sabiá
João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

Today we’re talking about the forest of the semi-arid region: the Caatinga! When we think of forests, the image of the Amazon almost always comes to mind. This is the idea that has been built up in our imagination over time: the forest as something distant, dense and humid, located in another region of the country.
But forest is also what’s close to us. For those who live in the capital, there is the Atlantic Forest, which runs through Recife and the entire Zona da Mata. And for those who live in the semi-arid region, the Caatinga is the native forest, the biome that sustains life, culture and food production.
It’s Forest Month and, more than ever, we need to look at the Semiarid forest, recognize its importance and strengthen its defense. A force that calls us once again to talk about the Caatinga Climate Week! To talk about this urgent and necessary issue, we invited Adriana Ramos, a specialist in environmental policies and a member of the Strategic Management Council of the Socio-Environmental Institute (ISA). Also with us is Vanessa Alves, a family farmer, from the Agroecology courses (UFRPE) and a member of the Escola dos Ventos.
