Agroecology moves the countryside, and those who follow the Sabiá Center already know that! But one of the important changes that agroecology promotes in the countryside goes far beyond sustenance, or the production of healthy food! Family farming, driven by agroecology is also empowerment in the countryside!

It is through agroecology that many peasant women guarantee social, ecological and economic autonomy. It is in the various rural women that the knowledge for maintaining biodiversity, cultivating the land, and also caring for animals is stored.

“Agroecology contributes to the empowerment of women from the perspective that sees the specifics of this public, from the recognition of the importance of women’s hands and knowledge for income generation, for the maintenance of biodiversity, women as guardians of native seeds, from the practices experienced around the house, where medicinal and fruitful herbs are grown, but also from the management of animal husbandry.”
