The Female Vote in Election Year | Cantos do Sabiá podcast
João Lucas França, broadcaster and communicator at Centro Sabiá.
This week the Cantos do Sabiá, our weekly podcast , talks about the feminist struggle for the right to vote! Today we talk about the day February 24th , the day we celebrate the conquest of the feminine vote in Brazil! The struggle of women for the female vote in Brazil dates back to long before 1891, when they were still trying, through the law, to include the vote of women as a guaranteed right.
This right was rejected by the constitution, which did not guarantee the vote of women until 1932, more than forty years later. and it was no accident; the fight for the vote gained strength and spread thanks to the advance of the social movements of the 20th century that brought the Feminist movement to the front line!
The struggle to secure women’s rightful place in politics and decision-making is not over. The Feminist movement continues to be the great defense for the rights of all women around the world. And on this 24th, we also need to think about the importance of having this right to vote assured, the impact of women’s vote in this year 2022! Every vote counts.
And it is to talk about this fight, and the 24th of February, the day of the conquest of the feminine vote in Brazil, that today we invite to Cantos do Sabiá, the state deputy Teresa Leitao! She is a teacher, pedagogue, trade unionist and Brazilian politician, and is part of the Education and Culture Commission, Education Sector of the PT National.
