Thinking that this month is the month in which we celebrate the day of education, April 28th, the Comida de Verdade Program comes to talk about food and an agro-ecological re-education! How to start eating without poison?

According to the EMBRAPA survey, the annual consumption of pesticides in Brazil has been over 300 thousand tons of commercial products. In addition to this, Brazil is the second largest producer of genetically modified foods – transgenics. And what does this cause? According to Unifesp research, of the more than 540,000 deaths in the year 2019, 57,000 were attributable to the consumption of ultra-processed foods.

Food is serious business! Malnutrition, obesity, and death by poison are part of the Brazilian table. Thinking about this day of education, April 28th, we ask here: Is it possible to re-educate yourself? How to start eating without poison?

To answer this and other questions we talked today with nutritionist Jailma Santos! Jailma is a professor at the Department of Nutrition at UFPE. Nutritionist, researcher at the Health Sciences Center at UFPE, and works in popular health education, food and nutrition education.
