On Wednesday morning (06), the headquarters of Centro Sabiá, in Recife, hosted the last General Assembly of 2023.
On this occasion, associates and members of the Centro Sabiá team met to discuss the balance sheet and the actions carried out in 2023, as well as to align expectations for the following year. Seventeen people took part in the event, including Sabiá members and employees.
The meeting also saw the election of the Sabiá Center’s new Board of Directors, who will take office in January 2024 and remain until December 2026. As of next year, Verônica Santana, Sonia Lucena and Tone Cristiano will hold the positions of president, vice-president and secretary, respectively. And on the supervisory board will be Marilene Nascimento Melo; Alaide Martins dos Santos and Ivonete Lidia Vieira.
The board is currently made up of Edna Maria (President); Sonia Lucena (Vice-President); Joana Santos (Secretary); Marilene Nascimento (Fiscal Council); Maria Verônica (Fiscal Council) and Tone Cristiano (Fiscal Council).
For the president-elect, Verônica Santana, it is a great honor to be part of the board of Centro Sabiá, where management will be collegiate and participatory. “It’s because I really believe in the work of this institution that we’re going to continue what Sabiá has been doing for more than 30 years, which is building and strengthening networks and articulations, advocating for public policies, especially when it comes to policies aimed at coexistence with the semi-arid region and climate change. The protagonism of women and young people is visible in Sabiá’s work,” explained Verônica.
According to the elected vice-president, Sônia Lucena, it’s great to be part of the Sabiá board, because the way of working is different, it’s enjoyable. “It was at the Josué de Castro Center that I learned about the existence of the Sabiá Center. During the ten years of Sabiá, for example, I took part in a seminar where Sebastião Pinheiro (an agronomist specializing in forestry engineering) was on the panel. I spent 13 years in the national CONSEA and it was this CONSEA experience that strengthened me to participate in the Sabiá Center. I’m very happy to continue on the board,” said Sônia Lucena.
Centro Sabiá would like to thank the board that ended its term this December and wish the new board, which will take over in January, a warm welcome and a job well done. Let’s keep planting more life for a better one!
