Protect the Atlantic Forest | Cantos do Sabiá
João Lucas França – Radio host and communicator for the Sabiá Center.
In recent years, Brazil has lost much of its nature. With deforestation, fires and the destruction of permanent protection policies, environmental policies, and the relaxation of environmental protection areas, we are losing space, nature and life.
The Atlantic Forest, one of the country’s most threatened biomes, lost around 13,000 hectares of native forest between 2019 and 2020, according to the SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation. In 2022, more than 75,000 hectares were lost.
This week, which marks National Atlantic Forest Day on May 27, we need to stop the chaos. We need to protect our Atlantic Forest! Preserve the lives of plants, animals… but also our own! This is what is at stake in times of constant and violent climate change.
Shall we talk about the Atlantic Forest? Let’s talk about solutions! Rodrigo José, a Biological Sciences student at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, is talking to us here today. He is a member of the Paudalho Municipal Environment Council through the Aldeia Socio-Environmental Forum and is one of the coordinators of the Surucucus Project in Pernambuco.
Cantos do Sabiá is the Centro Sabiá’s Podcast! Weekly we discuss agroecology, sustainability and politics in the countryside and in the city! The podcast goes live every Monday, with the complete interview edition that originally made up the Center’s radio program. https://spoti.fi/31VtUj5
