To postpone desertification | Cantos do Sabiá

João Lucas França – Radio host and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

Today Cantos is talking about the semi-arid region, the Caatinga and our challenge and responsibility to delay desertification.

June 17th is the National Day to Combat Desertification! A date that promotes discussion about climate change, global warming and, in a more local way, the appreciation of our dry forest, our white forest, of our caatinga! A living, rich biome, village, and completely ours.

This biome is constantly threatened by deforestation, fires and, consequently, desertification . Research by the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) has already identified our first areas with an arid climate. It’s irreversible desertification.

This must be stopped. Desertification must be postponed! But is it possible? And is it worth the effort? Giovanne Xenofonte, agronomist, agroecology and family farming activist, is talking to us today. He was a consultant for the initiative Public Policies for Agroecology in the Mouths of the People, of the National Articulation of Agroecology (ANA).

Cantos do Sabiá is the Centro Sabiá’s Podcast! Weekly we discuss agroecology, sustainability and politics in the countryside and in the city! The podcast goes live every Monday, with the complete interview edition that originally made up the Center’s radio program. https://spoti.fi/31VtUj5
