Municipalities and food security | Cantos do Sabiá

João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

Cantos do Sabiá, the Sabiá Center’s podcast, is officially back for another season, 2025! We opened the new season of our program by talking about the results of the vote of confidence we gave our municipalities for the 2024 elections; 5,565 Brazilian municipalities have already chosen their mayors and city council representatives. A new year, with some renewals, and local political changes too.

But what difference does it make? These are our local representatives, who from now on must also think about their commitment to defending nature, the environment, and also our food and nutritional security.

What role do municipalities play in ensuring food and nutrition security? What responsibility does our local politics have? We invited Professor Sônia Lucena to our podcast to talk about this important issue! Sônia is a nutritionist, retired professor from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) and vice-president of the Sabiá Center. She has a PhD in Nutrition.

Cantos do Sabiá is the Sabiá Center Podcast! Every week we discuss agroecology, sustainability and politics in the countryside and the city! The podcast goes live every Monday, with the complete interview edition that originally made up the Center’s radio program. https://spoti.fi/31VtUj5
