Sertanejo is a strong people | Cantos do Sabiá
João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

We’re talking about Sertanejo Day – May 3rd! A date that reaffirms: the sertanejo are strong people. But here we discuss the reasons for this strength. Of a people who have to withstand droughts, extreme climates – and they’re getting more extreme all the time – who live with lack, who learn from hardship.
But the sertão also has beauty! It has our Caatinga, the semi-arid forest. It’s a people that resists, creates stories, it’s history. Brazil’s strength comes from the sertão!
Today, we pay homage to this resistant, resilient people, who learn from what they have and today teach the whole world how to live with the new extreme climates. Sertanejo are strong people!
To talk about this important topic, we invited to our virtual table Álvaro Severo – a native of the backlands, journalist, protagonist and collaborator in various cultural projects. He is director of the Socio-Environmental Institute of Serra Grande.

Cantos do Sabiá is the Sabiá Center Podcast! Every week we discuss agroecology, sustainability and politics in the countryside and the city! The podcast goes live every Monday, with the complete interview edition that originally made up the Center’s radio program. https://spoti.fi/31VtUj5
