Agroforestry in cities? | Real Food

João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

In this week’s Real Food, we discuss an urgent topic: forest protection month. Is it a month for celebrations? How can we celebrate when the deforestation of our Atlantic Forest has increased by 2% compared to 2024, according to MapBiomas data?

What can we celebrate when the number of fires in our Caatinga has increased compared to the previous year? The environmental dialog has improved under the new Lula government, but the challenges of protecting our forests remain.

Today, we are talking about forest protection, but also about possible ways, especially in cities, to protect forests by creating solutions that nourish and restore nature. We need to unite agroecology and forest protection to guarantee a future. Shall we talk about agroforestry?

That’s what we’re talking about now with Tiago Jatobá! He works with urban and rural pruning, agroforestry management, agroecological ATER and seed collection. He collaborates with the Kapiwara Collective and is a member of the Povos da Mata Agroecology Network.

Comida de Verdade is your Saturday program to talk about food and agroecology, valuing our markets and local culture.
