What’s left of the Marias School? – Real Food
João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

What remains of the MARIAS School? The MARIAS School – Women and Urban Farming is today a reference in agroecological methodology and practices in cities. Here at Comida de Verdade, we followed all the stages of Recife’s first Urban Agriculture School – an experience that stood out locally, regionally and nationally.
After all, the way out – the alternative – to a possible future is to look back. We need to tell this story from the beginning. And from that beginning until today, after the end of the MARIAS School’s training cycle, the question remains: what remains of the MARIAS School?
Today, our conversation is 100% with them: the MARIAS – who made and make the MARIAS School live on. We spoke to the students, now graduates of the School of Urban Agriculture, women who continue to cultivate food, autonomy and organization in their territories.
Our conversation is with Rosemary and Manuela Fernanda, farmers from Horta Dandara; Aldenize Maria and Vera Lúcia, from Horta Popular Agroecológica Sonho de Viver; Kécia Alana, from Horta Margaridas.
