This July, the Sabiá Center celebrates 30 years with the “Earth Festival, Mother of All Struggles”, to commemorate these three decades of actions to promote family farming on the principles of agroecology. The second event of the Festival takes place, in Caruaru, capital of Agreste, on Saturday (15), in Via Parque, next to the Grande Hotel, at the Agroecological Fair of Caruaru .
The activity begins at 6am, with the exhibition of agroecological products for the fair-goers, there is also poetry, a conversation circle with the theme: “Living and living well in the Semi-arid”. In addition, the public present attends the Photographic Exhibition “Bora Viver sem Veneno”, by the NGO partner Centro Nordestino de Medicina Popular. And the animation is due to a trio pé-de-serra.
The territorial coordinator of Agreste, Juliana Peixoto, highlights the collective movement of the Sabiá Center’s actions over these 30 years, including the celebration. “We don’t do anything alone, we have this in our nature, to seek to build together, to do together, we arrived in these thirty years with this practice, so this Saturday here in Caruaru, we will celebrate with our partners, with the farming families, who have always trusted our work, to live together and live well in the Semiarid, which will be the motto of our party here in the territory.”
Juliana recalls that of the four territories of operation, Agreste was where Centro Sabiá implemented the most public policies. “We know how important it is for farming families to access their rights, to access public policies, for better conditions of permanence in the countryside, with dignity, with quality of life, for that we exist and resist in these 30 years”, he concludes.
