Farming families and seed houses in the Agreste Setentrional and Sertão do Pajeú regions of Pernambuco, assisted by Centro Sabiá, donated Creole seeds to strengthen communities affected by the rains in the south and extreme south of Bahia.
In all, 291kg of creole seeds were donated, 125kg of maize of the following varieties: light, hibra, red, white, fine cob and horse’s tooth; 136kg of beans of the following species: evergreen, black, purple, mulatto, fat, pigeon eye, pigeon pea, evergreen, armadillo tail, cane, chickpea, and pork; and 30kg of fava beans from the lines: butter, grandma’s ear, white, white mouth and brindle. In addition to these, sesame, sunflower, sorghum, okra, pumpkin, cotton, yam and yam seeds were also donated.
Indigenous communities, quilombolas, settlements and peripheries lost their plantations, houses, buildings and had their structures weakened or, in several cases, completely destroyed.
Agroecology has shown over the years, through the solidarity of peoples, that it is possible to change this reality of pain and suffering.
Agroecology is life!
The Seed Collection Campaign was an initiative of Teia dos Povos in partnership with Centro Sabiá, Rede SEMEAM, Movimento dos Trabalhadores Sem Terra de Pernambuco, Movimento Camponês Popular and Caxo Xukuru.
