World Food Day | Cantos do Sabiá
João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.
World Food Day, on October 16, is a good time to reflect on the urgency of ending hunger in Brazil, which is perhaps one of our oldest enemies Our fight is always against inequalities, and hunger is an anomaly , especially in a country that produces so much food.
The pandemic, coupled with the Bolsonaro government, has made this situation much worse, leaving millions of people food insecure. With Lula as president, the change in the fight against hunger and food insecurity is very clear: hunger has almost halved – a reduction of 43.9%! Brazil is falling back on the Hunger Map.
But what has changed? Is hunger a political issue? Despite progress, there is still a lot to be done. Brazil has all the potential to once again be an example of how to tackle this problem. But we need to face hunger for what it really is: a crisis that needs to be solved! What are the ways forward?
Nayara Côrtes Rocha – General Secretary of FIAN Brazil – Organization for the Human Right to Adequate Food and Nutrition – talks to us about the subject. Nutritionist and Master in Public Health.
