Climate adaptation: is there still time for change? | Real Food

João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

Recife is one of the Brazilian capitals most affected by climate change – in fact, it is one of the cities most impacted by the advance of the sea worldwide. This is what research by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) shows.

But that’s not all. When it rains, it floods. It floods. Kill. When it’s sunny, the heat is intense – and getting hotter. It’s getting hard to live with climate extremes without adapting.

That’s why, this May, Recife is hosting two major climate discussion events!

The Climate of Change Festival is coming! On May 14, the open space of Cais do Sertão, in Recife, will be filled with art, music and debatesdebates about the future.

The same week also sees the 19th International Conference on Community Adaptation to Climate Change (CBA19). So: is there still a climate for change in Recife?

We talked about this – and much more – with Raquel Ludermir, who holds a doctorate and a master’s degree in Urban Development, is an architect and urban planner, and is the advocacy coordinator for Habitat for Humanity Brazil.
