The Sertão is Alive! | Cantos do Sabiá

João Lucas França – Radio host and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

It’s time to celebrate the people who fight, resist and live for the countryside! All hail the sertanejo people! Today we’re talking about May 3rd, the day of the sertanejo, the sertaneja, and this permanent struggle for space, for access, for our backlands.

And it’s not an easy fight; the fight today in the sertão is for space, for land to produce, for quality of life, and also for the future! The planet is heating up non-stop, and now with climate change becoming more extreme, what has always been a resistance is becoming the only way out: we need a change for the countryside, a transition to agroecology. For the sertão, which is alive! And for its people, who never cease to resist.

Shall we talk about these hinterlands? Let’s talk about changes for survival! Taking part in today’s Cantos do Sabiá is Professor Miguel Leonardo – Geography teacher at the Pernambuco State Network and at AESET (Serra Talhada Educational Autarchy); popular environmental educator, with an emphasis on the Caatinga biome.

Cantos do Sabiá is the Centro Sabiá’s Podcast! Weekly we discuss agroecology, sustainability and politics in the countryside and in the city! The podcast goes live every Monday, with the complete interview edition that originally made up the Center’s radio program. https://spoti.fi/31VtUj5
