Food sovereignty for a sovereign Brazil | Cantos do Sabiá

João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

A month ago, the US government, led by Donald Trump, began to threaten national sovereignty with taxes, colonialist speeches and political impositions that put Brazil’s autonomy at risk. A political discourse that praises violence, discredits democracy and hurts our homeland.

But the national government, under Lula‘s leadership, is willing to negotiate and reaffirms that Brazil is a sovereign country. Trump was elected to govern the United States, not the world. It’s time to put national sovereignty on the agenda and reaffirm that we are indeed an independent country.

But what does it mean to be sovereign? How can we guarantee national sovereignty? And when we talk about agroecology, hunger, food and food security, can we say that we have food sovereignty?

That’s what we’re talking about on Cantos . Sandra Chaves is a nutritionist, PhD in Public Administration and professor at UFBA – Federal University of Bahia. She is part of the executive coordination of the PENSSAN Network – Brazilian Research Network on Food and Nutritional Sovereignty and Security.

Cantos do Sabiá is the Sabiá Center Podcast! Every week we discuss agroecology, sustainability and politics in the countryside and the city! The podcast goes live every Monday, with the complete interview edition that originally made up the Center’s radio program. https://spoti.fi/31VtUj5
