Solidarity Kitchens: how to feed the city? | Real Food
João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

For some years now, solidarity kitchens have been feeding the needy all over Brazil. Solidarity Kitchens is the name of the MTST – Movimento dos Trabalhadores Sem Teto (Homeless Workers’ Movement) project, which, in collaboration with various partners and with a collaboration agreement from the Ministry of Social Development, has made more than 50 kitchens possible in the country, helping to fight hunger on the outskirts.
The solidarity kitchens are not a new project: since the pandemic, they have been feeding those most in need. Over 1.2 million lunch boxes and more than 857 ,000 kilos of food were distributed during that period.
Today, kitchens are experiencing a new moment, and so is Brazil. That’s why we asked those who know about food: with the solidarity kitchens, how can we feed the city after all this time?
That’s what we’re talking about now with Vitória Genuíno – Black feminist, mother and activist. National coordinator of the MTST and chief of staff.
