Youth towards COP30! | Cantos do Sabiá
João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

In 2025, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP30, will take place here on Brazilian soil.
On Monday, November 10, COP30 begins in Brazil, in Belém do Pará, a historic moment to discuss climate change, which is becoming increasingly extreme.
But if it’s only November, why are we talking about it now? It’s because the “Semi-Arid Youth towards COP30!” training track is also coming up in 2025 . A training course focusing on climate justice, agroecology and coexistence with the semi-arid region, aimed at young people up to the age of 35 from different regions of Latin America.
It is they, the young people, who will build our future. It’s only right that these diverse young people should also be the ones listening, speaking and participating. Those who are active in a conference as urgent as COP30 in Brazil.
The action is being carried out by the Semi-Arid Platform of Latin America, in partnership with the Sabiá Center, the Climate Observatory and Terre des Hommes Suisse. The aim is to train and articulate rural youth to influence decision-making spaces – such as COP30, which is taking place in Belém, Brazil.
And why does this participation matter? How are rural youth participating in COP30? And what is the point of this participation?
We’re going to talk about all this training, about young people in the climate struggle, and also about the project “Semi-Arid Youth towards COP30!”, now with Frances Andrade: a young climate and socio-environmental activist from the Brazilian semi-arid region. Mobilizer for the involvement and empowerment of young people and under-represented groups to participate in decision-making spaces at local, regional, national and international level. Researcher and socio-environmental and climate activist from the Alto Sertão Sergipano.
