Health in the field and on the table – Cantos do Sabiá
João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

Ensuring health in the countryside and on the table is an urgent challenge. How can this health be guaranteed in a countryside that is increasingly invaded by poison, agribusiness and the intensive use of pesticides? How can we guarantee healthy food when it is often not even safe to produce it?
Thinking about real food means thinking about all the stages of food production. But we also need to look at those who produce it. Guaranteeing health in the countryside also means strengthening those who grow the crops. It means creating the conditions to expand agroecology, encouraging organic production and valuing the marketing circuits that bring those who produce closer to those who consume.
It is in this context that CPOrg Pernambuco (Pernambuco Organic Production Commission) is seeking to broaden this debate and give visibility to those who produce healthy food in the state, with the launch of the “Organic Product: health in the field and on the table” campaign.
And it is to talk about this very important topic that we have invited the countryside and academia to the debate! Horasa Andrade, professor at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, PhD in Ethnobiology, working in agroecology, family farming and sustainable rural development talks to us, along with agroforestry farmer Lenir Ferreira.
